RIDE A CROOKED MILE (1938)

A macho Cossack immigrant to the U.S. goes West and joins a ring of rustlers. Later his son follows him to states and he too begins stealing cows. Not knowing his father very well, the youth is anxious to prove himself a manly man and a friendly rivalry develops until the father is captured and imprisoned. Meanwhile, his son joins the cavalry and secretly engineers a break out. He succeeds and then feels terrible guilt, for it is his unit that has been assigned to bring his father to justice.

Not great quality for this one and this particular copy, sourced from a DVDR of unknown origin had a few places where the film would freeze for more than 10 seconds and then resume, this happens during the first 22 minutes, I removed all or most of the frozen dead time so now when it happens it’s only half a second to 2 seconds (see 13:10 for example), counting all the freeze glitches there’s probably 2 minutes of the film lost. If anyone has a better copy without any glitches please let me know. Thanks!

WYROK ZYCIA (1933)

A young girl, Jadzia, is sentenced to death for the murder of her child. Shocked by her fate, lawyer Krystyna decides to defend her in the court of second instance. She learns the story of a girl who was seduced by a strange man during a trip. Jadzia is acquitted and tries to start her life anew, but fate is preparing another fatal surprise for her.

The role of Jadzia was the film debut of the seventeen-year-old actress Jadwiga Andrzejewska, who was immediately counted among the most outstanding Polish actors. The role of Krystyna was also the film debut of Irena Eichlerówna, a highly regarded theatre actress who, before the war, had starred in only two films.

The wealthy “Death Valley” Cora is coming to New York but is kidnapped by con-man Ira Collins who has showgirl Sally Shea impersonating her to fit a scheme he has to get an eccentric millionaire, P.J. Quinterfield Sr., turn over to him coined gold which he will melt down and presented as newly-mined from Cora’s Death Valley mine. Sally is in on the scheme as Collins has told her it is part of the plan to get Quitenfield’s son to finance a show for her. But Sally falls in love with Neil Graham, who is an undercover G-Man.
