It’s so obvious that the guy is insane that one wonders what keeps his wife from getting the hell out. It’s ridiculous, totally unbelievable, and it never ends. Sometimes I wonder if the glow of the Nouvelle Vague rubbed off on Chabrol just to the degree that he could forge a career without a trace of wit or common sense.
