{From the outset let me state to and about Jon and his incredible generosity to all of us, the following in no way shape or form reflects on any deficiency on his part and should NOT/NEVER be taken as such.]
I’m in a Peter Brook review period after his passing early July 2022. I finally got around to watching this and have discovered something odd: as has with his MEETINGS WITH REMARKABLE MEN there has been substantial recent editing of the original product. In the case of REMARKABLE MEN (which I know well in the original form) a so-so film has been made even worse and now severely lacks any semblance of focus. It is missing 18 minutes and some of the strongest material the original had. Here 23 minutes have been removed by Brook. While in this case I never saw the original film, reviews and responses to that original product clearly radically differ from the material which I am witnessing here. There is overall in those late reviews a strong positive to (perhaps now politically controversial???) material which doesn’t show up here at all. If anyone knows where the original 158 minute TELL ME LIES can be found, I’d sure love to see it Peter Brook was of some importance to me while growing up in the 1960s. What I am witnessing in my review of his filmed output is what appears — APPEARS — to be an overall diminishing of his initial aesthetic vision and theatrical powers . And for me it starts interestingly with MEETINGS WITH REMARKABLE MEN and ever so slowly descends a slope from that point.. What troubles me is this apparent deliberate self censoring impulse that went on in Brook’s last years. And of course I could be completely wrong. Thanks again Jon for giving those of us interested a chance to see even what is (reorganized?) and left.

Hey Gino,
Only French VOBsubs exist for this film, here’s link for them:

You’ll need to use a program like Subtitle Edit and do OCR to convert them to an easier to work with format such as .srt. If you never done this before let me know and I’ll guide you a bit, besides Subtitle Edit you’ll need to download the French dictionary package as it only comes with English when you download it.
