My scenes were in the last of the movie where we raided the ship at night. I was the tall Ravager guy in the back guzzling a whiskey bottle as fast as I could while others were outside fighting. Real jerks we were letting our fellow gang members get shot up and killed while we ate and drank all we could. No honor among Ravagers eh? Being on the set often I got a good sense of the weak plot and the low budget and predictability of the plot. Still it was only the 2nd or 3rd time I had worked in a movie. Working around Borgnine, James, Harris and others ruined the movie for me having seen most of it being made as well as being in it. The guy that Borgnine clubbed w/a rifle just before he got shot was supposed to climb up the anchor chain but chickened out about 1/3 of the way up it. Really pissed off the stunt coordinator and they had to shoot around it that night. That old boat scene was shot on Sand Island out in the Gulf about 10 miles from shore near Mobile. The Ravager Gang in the white sand was shot on Dauphin Island. One of the Ravagers almost drowned trying to swim to the raft while myself and another Ravager jumped in the water and drug him out and gave CPR! He lied and said he could swim just to get in the movie! Just thought you might like some background perspective on things. Art Carney was a real pain to put up with his attitude and aloofness. The other cast members were nice.
