Such was much of 1950s- mid 1960s urban America and its view of mature themed cinema. Antonioni’s BLOWUP (1966) was the first film here to move from a porn venue to a specially designated art movie house. It had become such a big hit, that relegating exclusively to the seedy part of town, got in the way of extracting Big Buck$. What a strange culture to risk being shamed for being interested in something of psychological complexity! (But, maybe we’re just more sophisticated in alienating those interested in depth) LOL! This is quite an exceptional film and I’m so happy I’ve finally gotten to see it. Difficult material that has been extremely well-presented and handled. Thanks, Jon.
