The title, of course, is the French word for harem. The Henry James connection (“The Aspern Papers,” “The Ghostly Rental”} plus Lewis Carroll’s Alice Through the Looking Glass and Scheherazade/Arabian Nights makes for a marvelously complex and engrossing film. It’s well worth watching, imo.
