As Everett McGill said: “Before Twin Peaks there was Union City.” Later to be known international as “Big Ed” Hurley in the Mark Frost/David Lynch series, McGill was virtually unknown when Marcus Reichert cast him as Larry Longacre, superintendent of the apartment building in which Debbie Harry’s character Lillian lives and her secret lover. Neither was Debbie Harry known outside of Lower Manhattan — with a small but dedicated following in London — when she screen tested for what is surely her finest film performance.
